Default Tonight's commute home in the snow proved one thing to me.

I need snow tires!!!!

I consider myself lucky in getting home tonight. I knew it would be interesting out there driving on 4 1/2 year old All Season rubber with only 5/32nds tread left and it was. I never lost control of my A4 but a few times I felt myself sliding on the unplowed 3 inches of snow and slush on 95N from Providence to Mansfield. Quattro sure helped but I know that a new set of snow tires would have made it much less of a harrowing experience. BD and GK warned me that I'd be playing with fire with my worn All Seasons and I listed to them, I just didn't act and get the snows earlier in the year.

Moral of the story. All Seasons when they are new perform pretty well in the snow. All Seasons when they are old and worn are as good as driving on chilled hockey pucks. After I finish this post I will be going to tirerack.com to order snows for next winter.

Default same here, will be getting snows for my OEM sport 17s for next Winter. Current A/S are

pretty much done, just about at the wear bars. Makes for fun drifting though ;-)

Can't believe it hasn't even been a year and I'm done with these tires, 25k on them so far for ZR rated.

Default I have brand new P6's that came on my CPO car, and despite all the negative reviews..

they have performed wonderfully in the several Nor'easter's we have had this winter. I plan on dedicated snows on my stock rims for next year, though. Happy skiing and riding, all!!

Default I just drove from Providence to Boston on summer contisport contact IIs. really dumb idea

worst drive i've ever made. put the summer wheels and tires on last week since I put on Porsche brakes and the winters wouldn't fit. I probably should have driven the 2wd explorer w/good all seasons instead. the car is usually a monster in the snow...I was lucky to make it where I was going tonight. shows what a difference good rubber makes.

Default My P6s were fine for me too, I actually got 35k out of them. I'm just about finished with this 2nd

set of tires, just in time for me to mount my summer set up
