Default Where's the big benefit of coilovers?

Is it just the adjustable ride height or is the handling dramatically increased, say over an OEM/Aftermarket sport suspension?

i wouldsay the main advantage of coilovers is the adjustable ride height, and the fact that you can choose your ride heightand are not limited like you are on springs. also you can go lower on coilovers than on most spring sets. depending on which coilovers and which aftermarket springs you can find ones of similar stiffness.

Default Pet peeve rant here. Coilovers are track equipment that for 99.99%

of street driven cars are not consistently balanced and tuned to optimize handling. Their greatest virtue, adjustability, is also their greatest liability. Yes you can slam your ride height, but your car will probably handle like crap. Each time you adjust ride height, you affect other aspects of overall suspension geometry (alignment, camber, etc.)If you have the ability, tools, time etc., to adjust and tune your suspension often, go for it. If you want to improve your cars' handling, and lower it for looks, that's great but do it with an aftermarket shock/lowering spring setup that doesn't raise the adjustability problem that coilovers invite. Just my .02.

Thanks for the "in-valueable" info...Think I'll stick w/sport setup for now

Default Re: surprised every1 missing the boat on this..cornerweight

the biggest plus of coilovers, is independent ride height of each corner. which adds or takes weight from each corner. A little lower, stiffer , especially with tunable shocks plus moving a lil bit weight to the rear then having every corner weighing exactly what you want, for most cases as close to all4 even with driver will do more than any sway bar, dropped springs could ever hope to be

the average daily driver has no use for corner balancing though

Default So when your girlfriend gets in, do you re-stage your suspension? ;-)

Look, all that's being said (and I'm not the first to say it) is that for most people having adjustability at all four corners invites greater opportunity for introducing negative variables into peoples suspension setups. Personally, my ride sees a lot more street time than track time, so I make the choice to have a predictable, almost ;-) optimal, and consistent setup.

Default yes but are most peps here average.. I would find my happy

ride height, scale once with just driver weight if I planned on doin trackdays, not worry bout the 100 so lbs of GF on the street ... thank you that lil bit weight in our big car would only equal a few lbs. moved around.. still 1000 times better than stock... but I see your point with most drivers.. personally I wouldn't mess wit the Audi suspension tuning at all unless I switched to full coilovers, adjustable dampers, and spend 1 whole day at the track with scales tuning, tuning ,tuning...then hopefully never touch again after that

My experiance besides those mentioned is better ride then just the lowering springs. That alone is worth it!
