Too much cross shopping potential (warning, slow picture loading).
Expect R36 in 2007. S3 around the same time.

Hence the R36 in 3 door and S3 in 5 door........ one of each flavour means
less cross-shopping. That means fewer confused customers, which in turn mean more sales of whatever drew the customer in in the first place.

Nope. No confusion with R32. R36 based on R32, but we won't get the R32.
At least that is what a VW honcho said. Too much a niche market without it being fire breathing enough to take attention from the Japense turbo offerings. So the A3 3.2 will fill that gap for now, and then the R36 and S3 will come later.
The VR6 in 3.6 litre is shared with the new Passat.
