Default Advice on a couple of Porsche 911s I'm considering...

Just looking for those that are familiar w/ Porsche and can offer advice to me. I'm considering one of these 911 coupes on Autotrader. In return, I'll probably have to give up my S4 (which is easier to do now that we have a practical car in the avant, I can find a more impractical car).

This first one is an '05 911 Carrera Coupe, 325hp 3.6L, silver w/ under 12K mi. which they're selling for $69K.

This second 911 Coupe is a C4S (AWD), 320hp 3.6L, under 19K mi., silver and is an '02 model. Even though it's older, I like that it's AWD and about $10K lower than the other choice ($59K).

I haven't contacted either dealer yet since I wanna get more info first before contacting them. So, which one do you think is a better choice and why? TIA.

Default IMO, if you're spending 69k, spend 6k more and get a used 02 Turbo

They're out there for the right price...

Default Thanks for all the replies so far...

I'm leaning towards the C4S for now since I feel better having AWD during the rainy season. Also, I'm looking for one in the high $50K/low $60K range and either silver or gray (prefer silver). I'll have to keep my eyes open for a 996TT as was suggested, too. But so far, no luck.

Almost forgot to mention that I'm only looking for a Tip. I haven't driven a MT in about 15 yrs. and wifey has no exp. in it at all. If I'm to convince her to let me buy such an impractical, but fun sports car, it's gotta be something that she can drive easily, too.

No rush though in finding one, just trying to get as much info. as possible first before making a decision. Thanks again.

Default Check w/ Perry @ Porsche of Oakland, he's a great guy and finds really good deals on pre-owned Pcars

Also, don't worry about the MT. Porsche's Variocam VVT works so well, you can lag in 6th all the way down to the <2k then put in some boot and away you go. It's actually a very easy manual tranny to drive and I'd hate to see you go TIP and regret it down the line. Also, as to the AWD vs. RWD, the ESP on the 996 is amazingly good and I wouldn't worry at all about driving a RWD 996 around Norcal or even up in the snow. The days of the snap oversteer 911's are well over (thankfully so are the days of the whaletail)

Now get out there and get yer pcar you lucky bastid!
