we usually end up grabbing dinner at the pacheo pass chili's in gilroy.

not out of tradition, it's out of 'omg we're finally home, now i need food' kind of necessity.

off-the-beaten path, but great El Salvadorean pupusas at this place in Buttonwillow

and I mean the actual town of Buttonwillow (2 miles West of I-5), away from where all the gas stations are. I forget the name of the Pupuseria, but you really can't miss it it's on the right side of the street as you drive into the town. I've been there 3 times and always left with a happy belly.

UPDATE: passing thru yesterday and they opened up another place right @ the B'willow exit

the name is "Tita's", same as the one in Buttonwillow proper. I didn't have time to stop in so I can't vouch that the food is as good as the original Tita's, but hopefully for my next time in the area I'll find out.
