Default auto loan rate... is 5.25 the best a normal customer can get right now for a new car loan

the 5.25 rate is coming from starone.org and that rate included me signing up for direct deposit .75 discount and automatic payment .25 discount

the loan can be up to 7 years fixed.

is this the best rate i can get right now for a new auto loan?

and please don't tell me usaa, and other miltary credit unions/loans don't count since i won't be able to apply for them. starone you either have to work for certain companies, or live/work in santa clara county.

thanks!

Default I guess it depends on what a "normal" customer is. My wife got 3.00 on her auto loan.

Her credit rating was 700+ at the time.

On the other hand, my ex-roommate got 8.00 on his auto loan, but he just got his first credit card a couple of months before he bought his car.

Default normal meaning a place that doesn't have a requirement like military service

what credit union did your wife get the 3.00 from? and how long ago was this?

btw, the loan wasn't directly financed through the car manufactuer right?

Default 3% is unheard of right now - you sure this wasn't two years ago?

I'm a StarOne member too, and they are usually within .25% of the best rates in the country. 3% would be awesome

Default This was back in 2004. There wasn't a date specified in the question - sorry.

When we got married, we paid off her car loan. I bought mine in cash.

If you can, you should only get a loan on assets that appreciate, but 5.25 is a good rate. USAA can beat that by .25-.5 depending on your credit rating.

Default if you're going for 7 years, how about consider a 2 year lease then finance the residual

our TT came out an equivalent of a 1.95% for 7 years this way, although i ended up paying it off a year early. Although it would be gambling that rates will fall in 2 years

Default . i am not going to use the loan for 7 years

my payments under 7 years comes out to be about 500.

my payments if i went through the dealer was going to be around 700 (5.59 % for 60 months)

i am going to make extra payments of 200 every month. then my loan will finish in 4 years.

Default Sounds good if you can handle the payments. Although I estimate 57 months (4.75 years) with $200+

assuming a loan of $36K which amounts to about $700/mo for 5years @ 5.59%. Total payment is $41,257.

Using this figure in my homebrew (Mortgage) calculator, I come up with $518/mo for 7years at 5.25APR. Total payment is $43,527.

Added $200, it shortens term to 4.75 years, total payment is $40,937.

With $315 added instead, term is done in 4 years, and total payment amounts to $39,992. Not bad starting with a $36,000 loan. Or that's like an APR of 3.9% at 4 years, or 2.7% @ 7 years

cheers
