Can anyone walk me through replacing an oil pan?
My car is too low and I cracked my oil pan...ouch. I can do the work myself so I was just wondering if someone can just give me a simple guide like the steps and tools required. I live in Fremont and have my own garage. I have a 98.5 A4 1.8t. Thanks in advance!

You'll need to lift your engine. So here's some quick pointers...
remove front snub mount. This can be done on the 1.8T without removing the front end. It'll be tight to get to the bolts on the engine side though but doable.
Then loosen the tranny and engine mounts. Remove the lower nuts on the engine mounts
Find a small block of wood to squeeze in between the engine mount bushing and it's subframe rest. Lift the engine up from oil pan. Use a block wood or rubber on the jack to spread the force up.
Insert blocks of wood such that when you release the jack, the engine will be about 2 to 3 inches higher than it's normal position. Note, you have to keep an eye on the fan or anything in the front end as you are lifting. If yours doesn't have much room, then you might need to loosen, but not remove the front end. This will mean taking off headlights, bumper, then loosen the front end bolts
Once engine is lifted, remove the oil pan. There are two hidden bolts in the tranny area. You'll have to spin the crankshaft to make sure the flywheel is clear. You'll see this two holes in underneath the bell housing of transmission.
Should be done in 5 minutes, err, maybe 2 hours
