Default ECU question

Does the dealer keep some sort of serial number of the original stock ecu?

I was thinking of purchasing a new ECU, and was wondering if the dealer would be aware of the different box (I currently have a GIAC chip with the socket, and just usually swap out chips in the same ecu). I would like to simply swap ecu's, instead of always having to open up the original to swap chips.

Thanks guys.

Default I think it's just a Part # on the ECU, no registered #

and it all relates to the Letter at the end of the #.
So, just buy a spare with the correct letter at the end of the # on the ecu you have now.

Clair Parts had decent prices I heard. $500
the dealer wants $750 I think.

Default Ah..but the ECU boxes do have build dates on them. So just simply looking at it

from the outside, they can tell if it was the one that came with the car.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news.

Default Ummm....

If you have ever opened one up, you would know that you can change covers quite easily....so not too worried about that.
