Do any of you go to Mammoth regularly? Is there a route you go other than the suggested Google chaos:

Looks like parts of the 120 are closed during the winter, when I drag to my own travel path. I took this going down to Whitney in the summer, lots of backroads, hence why google suggests all hwy, but it was shorter regardless:

Any thoughts?

50 is too slow and I hate that road. The passes like Tioga are generally closed for the winter so I've always gone the 80 route.

I can't go the 80 route from the southbay, that's just too long, esp on a fri night with traffic through...
considering on bailing on the trip at this point.

Better than going all the way up to 80, then south tahoe thru in fri night traffic. Still not other choice to cut through, but this is a doable. This would be the route to kirkwood from teh southbay
there are 3 passes, sonora 108, sr-120 ,and 4 to cut through, all of wihch are closed in the winter.
this will work

is often closed which forces you back to Tahoe and down from there.
It's a pretty drive from Marlkeeville and over the pass.

so I could potentially cut thru.
Seems like part of that route is closed, making it undoable
IS CLOSED FROM THE JCT OF US 395 (MONO CO) TO THE JCT OF SR 4
/MONITOR PASS/ (ALPINE CO) - FOR THE WINTER - MOTORISTS ARE ADVISED TO USE AN
ALTERNATE ROUTE

already set on doing the 340 miles vs the 260 :/, but it'll be worth it, at least for the drive back on 395.
Flights suck from here. There's a flight now from LA, so i'd have to fly to LA to cut over.
