OT BT: How to edit .asf video file w/ iMovie?
#2
You need to convert it first
As far as I know, you need to convert the windoze format to MPEG or something else iMovie can use. That means you need a "not free" version of Flip4Mac. The free Flip4Mac is playback only.
Maybe someone has a better solution.<ul><li><a href="http://flip4mac.com/">http://flip4mac.com/</a></li></ul>

bought the $30 Player Pro ver last night as I don't need to export to wmv format..
and iMovie08 isn't supported so I had to download iMovie06. It imported no problem. Will try to edit it tonight or tmrw night. Thanks!
The options available for saving/exporting did made this video noob's eyes & head hurt!

bummer. If you had the 1080p version, it records to quicktime. much better than mpeg4(asf)
maybe try a USB capture card and go analog to the mac. Software converters work, but the seem to chop up data from an already chopped up (compressed) source.

You'll need to get a full version of QuickTime player.
You should have installed these QuickTime plug-ins, but if you haven't...
Perian (free)
Flip4Mac (free if you look on Microsoft's website for Windows Media Player for Mac)
Once you have this installed, reboot, then QuickTime player should be able to play the ASF file. If QuickTime can play it, then you can go to File > Save As... and then it will convert it to an MOV file. However, you may need to export it and change it to a different compression because that format may not be supported in iMovie. I would suggest H.264 for file format assuming you have a Intel based Mac. If you have a G4 Mac and its not that top of the line.. stay away from H.264 it will just be too painful.
