area.
My damn, 2nd internal hard drive (300Gig Maxtor PATA) took a dive on me this morning. I have loads of photos music etc on it. It was backed up a long time ago, but unfortunately not recent enough for my liking.
I tried to see if I could get any info off it by using a usb hard drive adapter to it, Windows recognizes/detects the hard drive, but it does not appear on "my computer" as a drive so I cannot see anything on it.
I wanted advice on options for data recovery here in the Bay area, and hopefully not for a manic price...
I may be screwed but I would like a expert opinion.
Tks...

gets pricey though. I think they do free quotes. If they can't recover, they don't charge--or something like that.

It's inexpensive ($89) and a great product. And it just might save you a bundle (no I don't work for Steve) on the data recovery.
Basically you just boot to a floppy and run it. If the drive is detectable it does a lot of low level work to recover bad sectors, etc.

The main hard drive is still working ok so my pc is running fine. But to me it is all about my data...
Got a quote, and man it is unreal...
Economy Service (5-7 business days): $500-2700
$200 attempt fee if the data is unrecoverable
Why such a large gap I have no idea ?
