tire install recommendations in between SF and San Mateo?
the shop that I used to mount/balance my 225/40-18 S-03s won't mount 235/40-18 Kuhmo MXs that I plan to buy to replace them, citing liability reasons (it's not the recommended Plus 1 size). I was ordering the tires through them even (instead of tire rack like i normally do). They will mount 225/40-18 & 235/35-18 though.
I want the 235/40 MXs as opposed to 225/40 because:
1) it's known that the 225/40 S-03s run wide and I want some bit of rim protection from the narrower 225/40 MXs
2) the 225/40 MX on a 18x8 rim looks a bit stretched (thanks to BeatTheWRX) & i have 18x8.5 BBS CHs
3) on an 8.5" rim, the rim sticks out more than the 225/40 MX (thanks to cup-a-chow)
4) kuhmo's rim width range for the 225/40-18 MX is 7.5-8.0 (the 235/40-18 is 8.0-9.5)
I'm kinda glad that buying tires through them didn't affect their stance on installing the 235/40s, but now I need to find a shop that will do it. No point in trying to argue and reason
appreciate any recommendations. had too many problems w/shops damaging my rims in the past (avoid Big O on Geary St. in SF) so I'm wary of going to new places unless others have had good experiences with them.
i know custom alignment comes recommended by many, but i want to stay within SF <-> San Mateo since i'm driving on 2 bald rear tires
thanks

I've had good experiences with Bob at Mark Morris on Larkin at Pine in
SF. He owns an M1 and seems to know cars, tires atc. and will listen to you and answer your questions. Give him a try and tell him Tom Hess sent you. He's worked on several Audis for me and helped me pick wheels and tires for my 2001 A8L. 17" RS4 wheels and Michelin MXV4 tires...like them!
