Default Depending upon the time you drive ...

The 580 to 880 interchange will be via 238 ... not my favorite stretch of two lane parking lot, but doable if before 7am. As others have said 880S can be crap but is "ok" at 7am. The 880S/237W interchange is bad after 7:30am. I would guess the commute with a pre-7am start would be just under an hour. After 7 and through 9, my guess would be at about 1.5 hours give or take.

You can always get up early one week and take the drive. If it sucks every day of the week and you don't want to live with that for the next 10 years, then don't buy there.

Just some friendly advice from a guy who lives in Pleasanton and works at Page Mill/280 in Palo Alto. This is a 50 minute to work commute at 7:30am and a +1 hour commute home at 5:30pm.

Default I did the O-town to SC commute for a year and a half...

...and it is pretty bad. I moved to SF and it only took about 45 minutes both ways on 280, but on 880, it took an hour and a half on good days in the am and over 2 hours in the pm. Plus, you better get a clear bra on your car, cause thier are a ton of gravel trucks and such on 880. The front of my cars got trashed.

Default That's good information.

I work 7:30am to 4:30pm to help with my current commute and it sounds like the times may be similar.

Default damn...another avant I want.

What time were you making the trek? It sounds terrible. I'm pretty sure 280 is the reason I have been able to deal with commuting for so long.

Default if she doesn't mind a bit of a walk, there's cheaper alternatives

like park somewhere SoMa for $6-8/day and walk, or drive to a BART/muni station and take the train in. Some of my coworkers drive from the southbay to the millbrae bart station, park there, then take bart in to downtown sf.

Default yeah, bart is best, but if you do.. make sure you drive a beater.

BART stations have almost nobody watching the cars. I've seen so many cars broken into.
