Would an Oakland to Santa Clara commute kill me?

Has traffic thru the Sunol Grade improved?
I remember hearing the 680 commute (AM southbound, PM northbound) thru the Sunol Grade was one of the worst chokepoints in the Bay Area. Has it been better?
I agree that Oakland to Santa Clara on the Nasty Nimitz is hell. I am lucky to go the reverse direction from Sunnyvale to Fremont and back, via Lawrence Expressway-237-880/return and it's about 35 minutes each way.
