sushi PERIOD is GINZA on Ave X and Ocean Avenue in Brooklyn.... it's a very small place and nothing fancy but out of the hundreds of places I've been..it's THE best and I go there every other week.

actually, i'm not into sushi either but i've tried it and the freshness of the fish definitely make a difference. at the high-end places, you're paying for the name and the fancy-shmancy dishes they serve up. if you're just going for decent sushi and cooked food there's no need to spend $50-$100/person. i.e. nobu, blue ribbon.
Another cheap/tasty suggestion is Typhoon (corner of 8th St. & 1st Ave). Afterwards, you can walk around the Village with your lady friend and pick up dessert at any of the many establishments in the area. Veniero's (Italian pastry /coffee shop)is just 3 blocks away from Typhoon.

I've been there once, and that was only to see what it was like inside. Marketing and hype of this place='s out of town retards who have never seen a chopstick in their life.
