Default excise tax in NJ?

Hey guys,

I'm relatively new to NJ and about to purchase a car in this state. Does NJ charge a yearly excise tax on cars? I grew up in Boston and that f'er charges it every year. Can't seem to find any info about NJ's rules online (and haven't bothered to call city hall yet), so hopefully you guys can enlighten me on the auto taxation laws here.

Also, is the sales tax 6 or 7%?

Thanks

Default no...

just sales tax when you make the purchase or register your car for the first time. A local City hall can't help you with this as its done via the states' DMV. You will find local DMV office throughout the area.

NJ State DMV

If the car is over 50k you will get a lux tax applied to every dollar over the 50K.
