Default How do you NJ/NYC guys do it? I am looking to move from Albany, NY to..

Westwood NJ or any of the surrounding areas. I have been looking for apartments and the prices are outrageous to what I am use to seeing here at home. I had found a nice condo for rent in Nanuet NY but it is rented out already. This place looks pretty nice. I can't believe a damn studio for $1300 a month.

Does anyone have any suggestions of apartment's etc etc. I could really use the help since I don't know the area. I will be working in Westwood NJ and G/f will be commuting to F.I.T. Any help would be great. Thanks guys.

Default Let's see...sublet, work two jobs, things like that...

...you should see the prices for the apartments in NYC near NYU. You'd be paying off a 5 bedroom house with 1 acre of land in Albany for the same monthly rent!!

Default whoops...

I went to school in that area (RPI - you knew Mica right?) and prices down here are just a bit more expensive. I just reread your post and saw you'll be working in Westwood (KMD Tuning is in that area, score) which means you don't have to be that close to NYC. If you're interested in the bigger apartment communities, Rent.com, Apartments.com, and this ForRent.com place look like good options. My first year in this area has been in one. I'm planning on moving to something smaller when my lease is up, though. Craigslist is the best place to find smaller places (like a multi-family house) for rent.

Default Craigs can be good...also the more roomates, the cheaper it is per person and converting 1 bedrooms

to 2 bedrooms often saves more money. The old addage that smaller spaces cost more per square foot is often true. So while a 2 bedroom costs more if you can manage to have a roomate, many times it will cost you both less than if you were in two studios.

We decided to take a one bedroom in Manhattan and convert it to a two for big savings.
