Default insurance is quoting me $7400 in repairs.

this includes a salvaged engine, and body work. what's not included are my 4 bent rims.

i'm going to fight them as much as possible because i don't want a salvaged engine in my car.

there was a giant hole in the oil pan, which is what caused the engine to blow. they claim that's all that will be needed, and they will do additional repairs that are needed (clutch, etc) as they find them...

this is all bull**** though. i need some advice on trying to fight insurance to get them to total it. -- the salvaged engine has ~23k miles on it, probably from shokan or something. so again, i need advice.

Default Unfortunately the salvage engine is all you will get out of them

The way they look at it is you had a used engine, you get a used engine.

Happened to my HS/college GF.. her twin brother got into an accident in their moms car that took out the trans.. They put in like 3 junk transmissions before the insurance company finally gave up and put a reman in...

Only other option would be to get them to total it out.. they'd never go for a new engine.

Honestly though I don't see any reason to not just get the used engine.

Default If you get the engine from Dad's or Shokan it should be fine...

A specialist yard knows how to evaluate used engines. Ask about the warranty on the used work as well. They should offer some sort of warranty for this degree of work.

Getting it totaled might be tough. You'd need to rack up much more than $7400 in repairs to get to that point.

Default If the car is CPO'd, a salvaged engine will void your CPO warranty.

Use that as leverage, and ask them if they are willing to assume the CPO warranty your car *had* before the theft. If they won't (they won't), then your car will no longer be in the same state as it was before the theft. Talk to AoA to see what it would take to maintain the CPO warranty (new crate engine might do it). That should push the repair costs up.

Regarding the bent wheels...not sure how much they want to give you for them...but if they will only penny up for OEM wheels...then they should cut you a check for $500/bent wheel, + ~$250 for each tire. That goes a long way toward replacing or fixing the BBS wheels.

Honestly, I don't think $7600 is a realistic estimate for the work that will be required. Did you send this car to C&D? If you did, what did Matt say about this estimate? He'll give you some good advice about dealing with the insurance company, and he'll do his best to work with the adjuster to resolve $$ issues without bothering you.

Default buy a reman from Audi.. then say OK..

Insurance can't force you to take one brand vrs another. Its like non OEM body parts.. you have the right to say no.

Default Take the money from insurance and buy an engine yourself

isurance should give you engine replacment cost from a dealer. While you are replacing the engine it would be a good time to throw in some turbos too :-) I was probably be selling my K03/k04's shortly, just wanted another car first before I decide to sell them... if you need them soon they are yours. No down time waiting for others to be built. I'm sure a good shop would allow you to source your own engine (just make sure its in very good shape) and then you could have some money left over for the turbos. Go with full K04's if you can srounge up and save enough money by sourcing your own engine.

Default this isn't 1902 and engines aren't being built by untrained idiots

23K on any motor unless it never had an oil change is an abloslutely flawless motor.. There is no reason to assume that this used motor would be in any worse shape then the one damaged in your car. Engines today are built to last 300K plus without problems.. There is no reason at all to be concerned with getting a used motor. I've bought engines site unseen with 4Xs the mileage and never been the least bit concerned.

Default Acutally in this case they do.. used motor for used motor

Unless you stated otherwise when the policy was written the insurance company has the upper hand here with the used motor.
