I really don't like having to put a front plate on my car and I haven't really had any problems in the past for not having one. But, I would like to attend the Edgewater meets and the posts about front plates and leading the a group for the COI got me a little paranoid about not having one. I don't plan on leaving it on for everyday driving, but I like that I have the option to put it on.
There are other options that I didn't go with...
- The OEM filler plate with the license plate mount: I didn't go with this option b/c (1) It's very wide and storing it in the trunk would take up more room then the one I went with. (2) There are 4 screws vs. the one stub of the one I chose.
- TheSkidPlate.com: I didn't find out about this one until after I ordered mine, but I prefer it one for a couple of reasons. (1) The one I got allows for multiple mounting locations which was important for the RS4 brake ducts. (2) The mounting method looks slightly easier.
- Swift Motorsports (standard or motorized): I don't think this would have worked right on the RS4. (1) From the looks of it I would have had to drill into my front splitter and it would be noticeable when tucked under the car. (2) I don't know how it would react to driving, it looks like there is nothing preventing it from hitting the car. There might be some rubber on the back of it protecting the car, but the constant movement can't be good. (3) The motorized is nice, but it costs more then what I went with.
So, the one I went with was the Mower Axle mount. One of the owners of Detailing Dynamics had one on his M5 and I really liked it. He gave me the website and I contacted Larry who was a pleasure to deal with. I thought I was going to have to send him my tow hook so he can match the thread, but he had just completed a B6 S4 and the threading is the same for my car. The only thing we needed to figure out was the length I wanted. I went with the the same length as my tow hook after taking some measurements. Larry said that if I wasn't happy he would keep making one for me until I was at no extra cost other then postage. He also said he could make mounting holes wherever I like on the plate, but I had something in mind and told him to send me a standard one and I'll try it out.
The time frame from order to delivery was also great! On 9/6 I told him the size I wanted and he said he wanted to complete the stud before I sent him payment. On 9/7 he contacted me and said he finished the stud...I sent payment. He acknowledge my payment and told me he would ship on 9/8 (I'm sure it would have been same day if it wasn't a Sunday). It arrived on 9/10.
I couldn't be happier with the results. I decided to go with the center hole, but flipped it upside down so that it wasn't blocking the brake ducts.
Here is the finished product:

I think you have TheSkidPlate.com one. When I was searching AW, I found a post by you asking about iconoclast's and from the looks of that post that's the one he has.
