My Day in Traffic Court (NYS): (kind of long)
8:00AM - Arrive at courthouse in upstate NY 2-hours from home in CT for 9:00AM appearance.
8:50AM - Court Room Opens.
9:00AM - Court Clerk anounces the Judge will be approx. 30-45 minutes late.
9:35AM - The Judge arrives and talks about Plea Bargains and how they work, etc.
9:40AM - First Case Called.
10:00AM - My Case is Called. (15 other case went before mine. This Judge was quick!)
10:02AM - My Case is Settled.
10:10AM - I Pay my fine, get my receipt and leave the Court House.
Not Bad!
Every Case was Plea Bargained with either the local police officer present or the Town Attorney that was present. No one chose to go to trial.
No State Troopers were present. The Town Attorney represented the State Troopers (WTF?)
Every Case was reduced to No Points (Parking on Pavement(non-moving)) or 2-Point Tickets (Failure to Obey a Traffic Device).
In one case (76 in a 55) the Judge told the young lady "Everyone speeds a little, 21 mph over the limit is just too dangerous". LOL.
My Case:
"Moving From a Lane Unsafely" - I fell asleep at the wheel and spunout on the highway.
Reduced to:
"Parking on Pavement" - No Points - $150. Fine.
Yay Me!

the reverse in CT...
Charge: unsafe lane change...entering a highway, flooring it to clear the traffic, the cop was behind the car we beat out.
D'oh..
Court:
Clerk...you can plead not guilty and come back when we reschedule the cop to come in. OR
We will void the charge/ticket altogehter but you need to make a 100.00 donation to the PBA of CT victims fund. We will give you a receipt.
