NYC to and from vermont ski areas, I-87 or I-95/I-91?
Going to and from the ski areas in southern and middle vermont (Stratton in particular is where I'm headed most these days), which route do you guys prefer? I-87 straight up the thruway or I-95 to I-91? I've been trying both the past few years and still can't decide myself. I have not been collecting a lot of hard data, but my best time to Stratton from Queens was 3 hours and 15 minutes using the I-95 to I-91 route. The I-87 route seems to have more patrols, but the patrols seem to use Ka-band radar which is easier and less cognitive load to spot than the K-band Massachusetts cops I run into. The I-95 to I-91 route is about 10 miles longer of a drive. Coming back after a day of skiing, there is sometimes traffic on I-91 and I-95 once you get into the Bridgeport and Stamford areas. I-87 seems to have traffic most often going north on Friday evenings, then again, so does I-95. Any thoughts?

Where? I'd do the whitestone (or triborough) to hutch to cross county to BRP to sprain
taconic to 2nd to last exit (313) to queechhy lake, go left, at fork, not right (local shortcut) to 22 to new 7 to manchester not historic route 7.
the queechy lake short cut takes about 10 minutes off the drive during the weekends holidays

taconic runs parallel with I87 all the way to I90
so if you follow Mr. Mom's directions out of the city (sprain etc) and then go north on Taconic it's a great drive.
Then continue with his directions.
Ive also done Rt8 all the way up but that mid CT and your coming from NYC.
