I am looking to speak to someone by phone about my 2000 A4 1.8tq with 153,000 miles. It runs like a top and the body is mint. It needs a clutch in the next year. I am torn as the more I drive it the less it is worth. I'm thinking of doing a chip, a clutch and suspension...or just selling it and buying a 2003 3.0.
Financially it seems foolish to put more money into this car, but it does treat me right and is very economical. I also park in a garage in Newark and am obsessed with dings. orry about dings.
Thoughts???

I paid $4000 for it a year ago from the original owner. It has the original turbo, new updated timing belt...and top end (don't ask). I loaned it to a colleague and the belt went so he paid for the bent valves, etc.
If I keep it and put another $3000 into it, I still have pretty cheap all weather transportation.
Are these numbers sensible? Any suggestions?
Chip $525
Clutch $1800 (is there a smarter option to the oem clutch)
Lowering springs and dampers $900
Thanks

The clutch and chip will increase the value to me. I was leaning towards keeping it. There is nothing comparable to be had for $4000. And if I put another $3000 into it to make it more fun for me, what can I find for $7000? Hey maybe I better look first....

as a B5 A4 for the money.
as long as you dont ahve sludge and you keep up on maint, itll be fine ofr a LONG LONG time.
Chip, clutch and suspension will transform it into a really fun machine.
that price for a chip is right, look for used too if you can, might eb able to cut that price in 1/2.
Clutch, I have no idea, I assume thats installed. I personally would buy a clutch kit for $400 or so (prob less) and do it myself, but that $1800 may be about right.
Suspension: I had Vogtland springs (under $200 from PureMS) and I got bilsteins on the holiday sale from AWE for a little over $400 shipped, and again, did the install myself, so I guess $900 installed is about right.

That is at least how much it'll cost to keep it properly running if you use it as a daily driver..
