Default So what happens if the timing belt goes on a 2.0T...? (v w)

travleing at say, 20mph....?

no discernable noise.... just engine shutdown.

does that sound like a TB failure? Is it always catastropic in terms of other damage?

car has 61k miles.

Default auto or manual?

auto normally shuts down. more damage can be made from a manual car breaking a TB.

Default not much damage for autos. same thing happened to my wife's ford escort years ago.

probably $300 - $800 labor and material.

Default What year escort though? It may not be an interference fit motor.

I experience a timing belt failure on a 90's escort and it's not a problem since the pistons do not collide with the valves when the belt breaks. However I believe every Audi is interference fit and will likely bend the valves if the belt breaks while the engine is running.

Default Did you check the codes? It could be something else. I had a ecu go where my car just shut down.

I also had the timing belt go as well.
