Default So what happens if your car fails CPO

can you still buy it off lease and does that mean you dont have to pay for CPO upcharge?

Just made it through lease inspection. 1 tire needs to be replaced.

Isn't the residual on the lease buyout rather high compared to market value?

Default usually, yes

the dealer buys the car from AFS at a less than wholesale value. Then they CPO the car and sell it for that plus CPO plus profit plus tax. CPO is a couple grand, so in my case its right aorund the cost of the residual, all in. Its a better deal but if it doesnt actually get CPO'd can I still buy it and then would it be much less for me?

Default I've seen cases where the dealer buyout is higher than wholesale, and...

then AFS releases the car to auction. They don't care at this point as they have insurance. Whichever way gets them the most money.

It won't come down to an issue of CPO or not.

Default I got a price from the dealer

which is essentially the same price as the AFS residual but the car is CPO'd.

I just wonder if the car can't pass CPO for some reason, would te price drop?

Default I'd be extremely surprised if it couldn't pass the CPO inspection...

...that would be way too much egg on your servicing dealers face.

Any issue(s), I am sure would be corrected first.

Default no such thing as "can't pass".....

if you do some searching you will find CPO cars that have been torn apart and put back together wrong. Parts missing, items needing repair.

Most dealers simply "rubber stamp" the approval as CPO is only an aftermarket extended service/warranty and not the best there is. Many items are not covered by cpo.

If you want your car ask the dealer to sell if to you for a simple 500.00 profit and get your own aftermarket policy.

Keep in mind with someone like BRUCE_M he can find you a similar car at an AFS auction for less than you are about to pay at your dealer.

Default The only way a car would fail a CPO is if it's been beat to death or been in a major accident

If an owner intends to keep their car beyond the original factory warranty, most dealers will just sell you the CPO for ~ $2k or $2.5k...

If the car was a trade in, or bought from a dealer auction and the dealer wants to resell it as a CPO.. Most reputable (not all) dealers will comb the car through their shop and replace most routine maintenance items like fluids, brake pads + rotors, and put on new OEM tires and bring it up to par with Audi's CPO standards..

Default So if the car is mine as a lease buyout, and they want to sell it to me as CPO'd after

the lease is up, do they pay for the new tires, or do I?

You'd get charged for it at lease return
