Default Trailer Wiring Help:

So I finally got around to wiring up my pick up so that I can run my trailer with it. I had to wire up the female end of the plug on the truck. The trailer already has one.

The directions tells me to connect the right turn signal and brake light and to connect the Left turn signal and brake light.

When I do this it just jumps power to each bulb and both turn signal and brake light stay on.

The plug has 4 wires

Left turn & brake light
right turn and brake light
ground
running lights

What am I missing?

I have it set up now so the running lights and brake lights work.

Default Your post is not clear.

On most trailers, the turn signal and brake light are shared. If the tow vehicle is wired the same way, wiring the harness to the tow vehicle is easy. If the tow vehicle has separate brake lights and turn signals, you need a converter:

Default Mine seem to be shared too but once I wire the turn signal and brake light up I hit the brake and

the brake light and turn signal turn on. It seems when I hit the brake its sending juice up to the turn signal bulb too.

This is all happeneing before I even hook it to the trailer so its nothing to do with the trailer.

Default The turn signal and the brake light are shared on the tow vehicle?

Got pic? Or can you draw a quick diagram in Paint or something.

It sounds like you need a converter.
