if you can get the 1.7 at a much cheaper price, you can send it back to V1 and get it updated.

Default I believe the going rate is around $230 but they send you a brand new...
unit for the $230 + your 1.7. Is it possible for them to just upgrade the software without getting a new unit?

Default Depends on whether or not they use POP in your area.
To my knowledge, they don't in my area, and my 8500 would constantly false on the POP mode, so I shut it off after 6 months of falses without a solitary true positive. My V1 is 1.7, and I've seen no reason to upgrade it.

Default valentine's website has an FAQ that explains all this
At least they did a few years ago. I can't imagine that he's taken that information away.

Default Correct...different technology, but same idea.
POP sends a very brief radar pulse. They aren't supposed to use it for measuring your speed and issuing tickets, but if they have a tool at their disposal, you and I know, they are going to use it anyway.

Default I would do some google searches, don't think an update just for POP is worth it.
I think I even read that on the v1 website when I put my serial number in.
