Just moved from Jersey City to a 2 family home in Fort Lee where the owner allows me to use his cable but without a box. I want the box in order to get the HD channels and also the other channels he has available with a box. If anyone knows where I can buy a box instead of renting one thru Time Warner I'd appreciate it.
Thanks

I cant take my cable box, disconnect it and connect it at your house... at least I dont think so.
Seems like an awful lot of drama over a cable box, he could just add it and you can pay him as part of the rent. Also why cant you agree to pay for the box rental for a yr in advance, i.e. 80.00, to give him peace of mind.

hay whats going I'm a time warner cable tech (cable guy) and i worked on the customer service end for 1 year. Basically you can't rent or buy a box.
1) like on person said before each account has an assigned cable box or each cable box or modem is linked to an account.
2) If you so happen to get a box from someone and connect it, it won't work because the system won't be able to recognize the box, and if you call customer service to activate the box they are going to think it is stolen and eventually cut the signal to your house(singal security dept.)
The best thing for you to do is ask the owner for the cable boxes they had on the account.
