Is your destination Staten Island? If not....don't even bother with Verizanno.

The Merrit or I-95 to the Hutch, Hutch to the Whitestone Bridge, follow signs for LGA Airport (stay to the right) onto the Grand Central Pkwy. for a few miles, then just past LGA catch the Brookly/Queens Expressway all the way to the Verrazano. At around 3pm you shouldn't hit much traffic.

Default From my limited experience I always hit dense traffic at this time, both in SI and on BQE

And BQE is the only effective way to get on Verezzano(sp?) bridge. You could try side streets, but either way you WILL hit traffic.
