Default Will a "Failure to Obey Sign" cause my insurance to go up?

The cop said no, but I'm starting to think otherwise.

Default it'll count against you

cops love to say that it won't... I got the same lie told to me by a small town cop in ct.. but when i went to get new insurance, there it was.. it counts as a moving violation like a speeding ticket....

Default info inside

In insurance terms for most companies this infraction generates 1 insurance point. In order to be surcharged in insurance you need to have accumulated 2 or more points. So the answer is if that's all you have on your record your insurance will not increase, but if you have another infraction that generates 1 point such as failure to yield, you would now be surcharged because your point total is 2 or more points. I hope this makes sense.

Default great....

the type of sign is not specified. when i spoke with the cop prior to standing before the justice, he said that it would not affect my insurance. I asked "are you sure?" and he re-assured me and said it would not go up. so much for that.

Default thanks for the info...question for you though.

These "insurance points" that you speak of are seperate from actual points on my lisence? This is the first moving violation I've ever had. I accumulated 2 points on my lisence from this incident.

Default The points are totally different, just a note I am speaking about insurance in NY

This may not apply to other states. Each state had their own department of insurance that regulates the industry so my prior statement may vary from state to state depending on regulation.

i had failure to disobey traffic signal. (i made a left when the arrow wasnt green... i didnt even know there was an arrow) and it was in nj, and i have a ny lic. and my insurance picked it up. and my rates were effected. when i was switching insurance companies they all saw it, and said thats why the rates went up.
