I bought in November 2007, from an authorized dealer in Portugal, an Audi A6 2.0, now with 6,000km.
Up to now I needed to change the motor oil three times (500, 3000 and 6000 km).
The use of the car is absolutely normal.
When I went to de dealer, they said to me it is absolutely normal, because the motor is too hot for the oil they recommend!
I do not think this normal, and if it is, I will give up to have this Audi. My last car was an Audi A6 1.9 and I never had a problem during the 4 years I used it.

Is it a TFSI or TDI?

If it is a 2.0TFSI you could ask on the B7 or B8 A4 forum, or the 2.0TFSI forum.

The oil changes do seem excessive, on the other hand it is a new car and the engine does need a little bit of breaking in. What kind of oil are you getting? Both 2.0 engines are turbocharged, putting high demands on oil quality. I would guess both engines should get fully synthetic oil, mineral and semi-synthetic would probably break down quickly and require frequent changes.
