Another Powder Alert
Powder Alert-
March 30th - 2009
Powder Alert
Issued 2:26 PM Monday March 30th
March: In like a lion, out like a lion…April continues the epic snowfall.
March turned out to be the best snow month of the season. And it appears early April will not disappoint. After relatively meager snow accumulation in January and February, March really cranked out the snow (more than 11ft in March at Crystal).
It just shows you there is no month to month snowfall pattern. A snowy or dry month will not necessarily “stick” the pattern to the next month. Seasonal snowfall accumulation, is not always a straight line moving progressively upward, but may move in steps.
Two strong systems will spread snow in the Cascades for much of the next 72 hours. The snow levels will be near 2500ft all week, for above average quality. Just beware, even with the cloud cover, the south slopes can warm up by late morning, degrading snow quality. Be aware of slope aspect.
Expect snow to start falling tonight in the Cascades with 2-5” and a SL of 2500ft by
Tuesday morning. Expect snow all day Tuesday with another 2-5” new.

Wednesday morning will see a brief break, with lighter snowfall, but plenty new (3-7“) from the night before. Light new snow through the day increasing later.
Thursday will see 3-7” new
Friday: partial pm clearing 1-3” new in the AM.
Saturday: Partly sunny with more new snow later Sunday.
The above is my current best guess. Timing and amounts may change – we will definitely be getting snow!
I like Wednesday and Thursday for fresh snow. Friday & especially Saturday for some sun -- my vitamin D is low.
