I just replaced the pads on my '99 A6 last night. I've never undertaken any kind of mechanic's work and could not have done it without all the articles and support on this site. Everyone who takes the time to post their knowledge can rock on.
My point: The piston retractor tool seriously saved my bacon and I know they can be tough to find. They're pretty expensive to buy, but I rented one from the Shuck's at Eastgate in Bellevue. They charge $6 for a two day rental. Can't beat that.
