Maybe in the next house....
A few things I would do differently:
1) Just what you said with a transparent screen hiding speakers.
2) Tiered (3 rows) Seating
3) A dedicated zone to keep the room climate controlled.
4) Custom Racking hiding all components
** The room looks a little different now. I moved the subwoofer into the closet/component area so you can't see it. It sounds better there anyway. With the subwoofer gone, the room really does look a lot more "balanced" with the 3 speakers below the screen.
I also keep the crushed black velvet drapes closed at all times (now) to make the current component setup and dvd collection cleaner looking.

This is how my parents have their theater room set up, w/ all components and speakers
in compartments behind the mesh, along with a mini fridge. It's a great set up, very clean when they aren't storing a bunch of junk in the room.
