Wonder why insurance didn't cover his expenses/loss
though the audi drivers legal logic seem sound. Court finds that he didn't break the law and isn't at fault, kid damaged his car and (for some unknown reason) insurance doesn't pay, why should he be out the damage to his car and the cost of a rental car

Where did that come out? There wasn't anything in the CNN / Reuters articles about that.
Only that his insurance company paid out to the family, which insurance companies generally won't pay out if there's any culpability on the part of the vicitm.
