Default Ideas for affordable warm-weather vacation around New Year's?

My wife has some time off right around the new year and we'd like to get away for a week or 10 days to somewhere nice. We got married this year and skipped the honeymoon while she finished her CPA and I finished a large work project.

Now I got a promotion and we're working on selling her house. So it's time to relax.

Other than Hawaii, what other options are out there for a relatively affordable warm weather destination with reasonable travel time from the West Coast? Any places you've stayed before or can recommend? We don't want total isolation from cities and good food, but it would be nice to relax a bit and have some privacy too. For those of you that have been to Hawaii... give me the low down on the best places to go.

Thanks for any ideas...

Default Going to PV in Nov. myself

I also think that would be a good option.

If you are interested in Hawaii, I know someone who has a house on Kona that rents it out for very cheap. Private and quiet. I can look into for you if you like.

Default Go get a bareboat in the Caribbean. Or get one with a captain

and just pay an all inclusive fee. Did the 2nd option with my family for new years last year and the all inclusive (food, meals cooked for us, amenities, and booze) was like $700 and we cruised around the british virgin island for a week.

Default For really cheap, go to Baja peninsula such as Rosarita Beach or Ensenada.

You can even catch a cruise down and back out of Long Beach.
