2nd. Kalaloch is great! Also 2nd beach near Lapush is nice!

i drive there with some friends every year in the summer, the drive from kingston across the peninsula is the best, it's long but so worth it.

a "significant other". Make the cut off I-5 at Longview, through Astoria (not much to see there!) and time-wise it's not that much different then making a drive to Portland. If you go through Portland, the drive is much much longer.

Grab lunch at the Vista Sea Cafe. They have fantastic pizza -- good sandwiches as well. For some outdoors stuff, I'd recommend driving down 101 toward Canon Beach. Stop at Ecola State Park for a great view of everything. Hug Point (a bit further south) is also really pretty -- tiny beach between two big cliffs.
