Portland revenue enhancement - parking meter folks are now ticketing a lack of front plates
According to an evening news story Portland City meter folks are now giving out tickets to any car they see parked along the streets with no front plates. The city thinks it will be able to collect at least a quarter million $$$ from the citations and are hoping to get more from their red light cameras.
It turns out that they have already lost that much in red light violation revenue because cars didn't have front plates so they could be identified in the pictures. They don't have cameras that can shoot a rear plate.
On a happy note for me they are only authorized to ticket OR registered cars and not out of state vehicles.

I have a few of these on my record already. NFPT that is.
The mobile speeder vans have front shots but I don't think the Red light cameras do. Which doesn't make sense because wouldn't it take a picture of your rear as you have rolled through the light???
I like Oregon for the most part but that plate law is dumb. Some states actually encourage you to personalize your front plate. You watch, they will probably work it out with Washington to allow each other to ticket in the other state. Make both more revenue... Bastards

The red light cameras are only shooting the fronts of the cars - they showed a few of these photos
on the evening news and a PDX Police spokesperson admitted they had no rear shots.

We don't all have vanity plates we want to show off.
The last car I had a front plate on didn't win me any prizes with the service Dept. at Sunset either.
They had a copy of the Quattro Quarterly sitting on the counter when I brought my car in for service with this as a full page picture inside:
