Default I live in Kenmore (very close to bothell).

The commute to downtown Bellevue or Seattle is ~30min in rush hour either way (in bothell to seattle it would be longer by probably 10 or 15min). The commute home can get ugly depending on when you leave sometimes up to 45min.

To microsoft it's about the same depending on when you leave.

To south bellevue or seattle it's not so hot. My wife works in factoria and it takes her ~35min in the morning and between 45min - 1hr 15min to get home depending on traffic.

We specifically looked in the kenmore area to get out of the city a bit, and I think the commute is worth no longer living in the nose 10ft in the air Plateau area (sorry I probably offended 90% of you I know). Another upside to Kenmore and west Bothell is that you dont have to fight bridges, it takes me 20 minutes to downtown seattle on weekends and 15 minutes to downtown bellevue. I'm a consultant so being so central is really nice.

Default Another Californicator. Welcome. :) Traffic is bout as bad if not worse. Should be use to it.

If you have to go into work, leave around 5:00am to make it across the bridge before it slows to a snails pace. Northbound on 405 (We don't preface our freeways here with 'The') is really bad in the afternoon from Kirkland starting around 3:00pm and really, really BAD in the mornings, starting in Renton and heading on into Bellevue. Slow, slow crawl at 6:00am till 9:30am

Southbound on 405 is miserable in the afternoon from Bellevue to Renton. 3:00pm till 7:30pm

520 I avoid all together in the afternoons. You'd need to take 520 west to get into Seattle or I-90 west. 520 distance-wise is closer, but the trade off is Nasty Traffic.

If you have to work in Seattle, take the bus. The streets are horrid with 5ft pot holes. Cars have been known to be lost in them.

Study the traffic patterns here (more after the jump)

Welcome to Washington. <ul><li><a href="http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/traffic/seattle/">Jump</a></li></ul>

Default Traffic from there to d/t Seattle could be nightmarish.

You'd likely hit I-5 south, and battle the UW and 520 interchange, which ALWAYS is backed up. I mean ALWAYS.

Not an ideal place for working d/t. But, since you work from home, maybe you could handle it.

Default thanks all. Just checked out the place. Nice neighborhood but the rooms are so damn small.

I can see how the traffic would be horrific from there. Especially with folks driving 55 and lane-hogging around here :-)

might have to bite down and get something a bit more expensive and closer to d/t seattle/bellevue.

Default lol. yeah, sometimes lucky to drive 55. bellevue is nice, but like you said

its a bit more $$$. No matter where you buy, you'll like it here.

Default 2nd.... On a good day, off peak hours, you could do that drive in 30

minutes or so. But rush hour you would be looking at about an hour or more. Most of the drive is four lane road with stop light after stop light. Then when you get to I-5 you need to merge on at one of the big I-5 choke points heading into the city.

Since you know where the office is already, I'd look some where north or northwest of the space needle (Queen Anne, Magnolia, Ballard etc.).
