Yes, EVERYTHING goes on an airplane with us, all of the long glass and bodies being carried on.
FYI, under TSA rules, photogs get an extra carry on bag, but that doesn't mean the airlines will allow it (why you get travel the same airlines to get a high status to get a better luggage allowance).
All is covered by insurance via an inland marine policy (that's what they all call it) thru, get this, the National Wildlife Photographers Accociation. $120,000 insured costs about $2800 per year with a $500 deductable. Pros cannot get gear covered under the homeowners policy.
If we are not flying, the gear all goes our photo truck and mobile studio trailer, which allows us plenty of storage. The truck and trailer are pictured above.
We have a new trailer on the way which is six fee longer and 13'6" tall. It's a "stacker" trailer, which for those who don't know, means it has a lift in it that allows us to take two cars (one on each level) and our golf cart and four wheeler with us. We take delivery on March 25 of 2006.
Incidently, we use the truck for photo shoots with athletes and celebs, not just for personal living quarters. The truck doubles as a changing and make up room, as well as a celeb/athlete rest area.
Take care,
Mike S

We do about 120-140 photo shoots per year and are on the road 250-270 days per year.
Clients include, Audi, BMW, Porsche, Kelloggs, Nike, Reebok, Puma, adidas, HBO Sports, ESPN, Satchi, Leo Burnett and many more.
The truck and trailer pay for themselves, but the initial investment is a bit, "cough", steep.
We will be in PDX in early Nov shooting the PIR event. Stop by and check out the truck/trailer.
Take care,
