Technical question--Tepm. gauge miss-behaving

I have a 2000 A6 4.2L that is doing the same thing...kind of.
When I start my engine, all the gages work properly, with the exception of my water temp gage.
It's faulty most of the time but then there is the rare day when it work correctly.
I am confident that it's a sensor issue.

go buy the part at the stealership. Lots of info in the archives.

cure the issue with the gauge in the cluster..
its a quick fix also, just make sure to swap it out when the vehicle is cold.
