San Jose..
San Jose is by far the biggest city, but you want to get out of there as soon as possible because it sucks. If you're interested in going to Costa Rica, I can tell you some GREAT beaches to go to. Also, some great places to see wildlife.
We went all over the country for two weeks, but we ended up staying at a beach on the west coast called Playa Guillones for 4 nights or so - I could have stayed there for weeks on end. You had to go about 30 miles up a dirt road and all of a sudden there was a tiny surf town in the middle of no where. It was kinda like the movie The Beach, only without crazy killing drug dealers and pirates. A 4 person cabana right next to a pool and the little bar that everyone goes to at night was $45 a night. I'll put a link to the place we stayed at the bottom of the message.
If you look around, you should be able find a good deal on a ticket. I paid about $300. Check American Airlines, it should be in the $300-$400 range.<ul><li><a href="http://www.blewdogs.com/">http://www.blewdogs.com/</a</li></ul>
