I replaced my A8L's exhaust with one from a 2007 S8. The A8L and the S8 (which is NOT "L") exhausts' dimensions are identical from the front cans back, surprisingly. The factory part is quite large and only replaceable by cutting the exhaust into sections.
In my wildest fantasy, there's a local shop who has an insurance quote using OE parts, which would ring up to right about exactly $3000 (not including the front sections; see below). All I want is the scrap value (forty cents a pound) plus the PITA factor, which is about one bottle of Whistlepig Rye (the whiskey is ~$120). BTW, if the thing weighs less than my estimate, I still want the forty friggin dollars.
So using the above values, we see that
100# X $0.40 = $40.00 + 120.00 = $160.00
The exhaust system fits quite neatly on the roof rack of a Toyletta Highlander, and all the little kids who pull up alongside in traffic think the little SUV is jet-powered due to the prominent exhaust tips extending over the back of the roof, so there's that. I'm near Nashville and can deliver for an exorbitant amount within a two hour radius.
See this page at AudiUSA parts for clarification. Includes parts 4, 5, 9, 11, 12, and TWO of #19, tips.
Number 4 & 5 are not reusable unless you can weld to the cans, I'm afraid. It could be done (I'd try), but in the interest of full disclosure, I thought it worth mentioning. The rest is all one big piece. One big-*** piece.
Thanks for looking,
Tom
