I had my blow yesterday 7/18/03 on a 99 1.8TQ with only 42k miles on it. So beware. If you have 99 or older, I recommend you get the belt and tensioner and water pump replaced ASAP. As far as I'm concerned, its a time bomb. Estimated repair cost as a result...$3,000-$8,000.

My 98 1.8tq was approx 5-1/2yrs, 76,000mi when the tensioner failed. At present (7/25/03) the head is being evaulated to see if it was damaged. 15 of the 20 valves were bent.

15 is a strange number. it should be a multiple of 4 depending on engine speed and relative position of cams/crank. if indeed they say it's 15, then I'd go ahead and replace the 1 that doesn't match the other 3. e.g., if the forward-most intake valve is bent on 3 cylinders, I'd go ahead and replace the same forward-most intake valve on the 4th cylinder because it likely hit the piston as well.
