BMW Dinan like options for Audi's??
Here is the scenario: I am going to buy a Audi A4 3.0 Quattro or a BMW 330i in the next week. I am leaning toward the Audi, but I am have some reservation after reading some reviews. My main concern is that everyone says that A4 3.0 has poor low-end torque? True or not? I have two main questions:
(1) How does the 330i and A4 3.0 compare (in your eyes)?
(2) If I do go with the A4, I would like to have the option of more performance some day? EG, like "Dinan" for BMW. Are there any tuner shops for Audi's that you could suggest?
Thank for all the input!

Is this the new engine with the timing stuff in rear?
If so I have heard it is a real bitch to change things mechanically like timing (cams, etc.)and that they are really hard to reassemble and that the tuners wont go inside them much. So that leaves superchargers or turbo systems. You can do a one off (turbo or SC) with Motec or TEC-3 but you will then lose some of the functions of your nice new car, like instruments and ABS and stability control. This may or may not be acceptable to you. The other choice is to see if a tuner such as MTM or Sportec or Dahlback makes a kit. I have heard some work is going on, but I havent seen anything yet. So while I think there will be an option, it isnt here yet. Either way you will probably be out around 20k$ (big guess) installed. I am sure that this is do-able. I would go ahead and get the s4 v8, I heard there was a 400hp kit for it. I also have driven one stock and was very impressed. Also if looking at a BMW, the Mcoupe is a much nicer piece and is the only one I would take over an Audi (appropriately modified).

You may find that...
there are more perfomance parts for the 1.8T and you can save cost on the car and put the differnece directly to the engine and in all of five minutes. Just a chip to start off will give you more than the 3.0 has.. especially at low end.
The you can do the turbo down the road..

Re: BMW Dinan like options for Audi's??
A stock 330i will be quicker as it is lighter. The 3.0 is 3,600 lbs. The 221 Ft.lbs. of Torque peaks at 3,200 rpm and to me it is very linear, no lag. The advantage of the Audi is the quattro. In the wet the car is amazing. The car is on rails in cornering, wet or dry. Performance mods are limited to a chip and an exhaust at this time. With those two items you should see 240+ Hp and Torque. There are companies like PES testing Supercharger kits but none are forth coming just yet. MTM have had one out for awhile but requires them to do the install, 9k. If PES keep to their plans, the kit should be around 5k and will increase power around 30 to 50%.
