Default So its just a tank off to the side that the bpv connects too.

Maybe its their way of solving the coke bottle sound issue.

Default It must be a "buffer box"

Perhaps the small K03 turbo which we know can make pretty decent boost at 1000 rpm according to the map, could have fluctuations(spikes) in pressure which aren't desirable in the drivability of the car. I'm pretty convinced that the box serves the purpose of just increasing the volume of the intake tract. What must be filled, has to then be emptied. If you think that Audi used K27 turbos on their 2.0 liter race motors which are much larger than the K03 on the 1.8 motor, I think its pretty clear. It was probably added to smooth out the motor's initial turbo kick in. It also stands to reason that the reservoir will lessen the symptoms of a failed BPV.

IMO if you increase your intercooler to a volume that exceeds the combined volume of the stock IC and Reservoir, the stock Reservoir shouldn't be needed. Also a change to a K04 might warrant a look at a TT225 to see if it has the reservoir. The upsize in the turbo might remove Audi's perception that the reservoir needs to be there. If it does or doesn't than that might shed some light on what the threshold point is for drivability. From a pure performance stand point, I'd remove it. The intake volume between the turbo and the valves can never be too small to improve boost response and characteristics after the throttle body opens.
