Default Carb replacement is easy. Just make sure you have standard tools, no metric fasteners here :)

As for choice, it all depends on what kind of motor you have, what size carb you're running, etc.

Default Holley.

950cfm is suitable.

Edelbrock makes a good Intake Manifold(I think).

Instalation is simple.

Default Holy ****, are you kidding me? a 950 CFM is huge even for a big block!

Jesus Christ man! I used to run a 600 cfm vacuum secondary on a 460!

I have seen way too many 350s with a "3/4 race cam" (whatever the **** that is) and an 850 double pumper on them that got 10 mpg, rich stumbled like hell when you stepped on them, because you had to run the accelerator pump on the last hole to squirt enough fuel to make up for the almost total absence of vacuum at the venturis at throttle tip in. But the kids thought they were cool because "that's what the drag racers used" Yah, but the drag racers were making 4-500 hp from a small block (all motor) and the kids were making 200-250.

I used to have the formula for cfm vs CID. I'll have to dig that up sometime.

Default Holleys work fine and are tunable, but they leak if you over (or under) tighten the float bowls

The Edelbrock has no gaskets below fuel level, so that is an option.

The Demon carbs are good also, they are a pretty new brand but they rock.

~600 cfm for small block

~700 cfm for a big block.

DO NOT GET A DOUBLEPUMPER UNLESS YOU OWN STOCK IN EXXON. They are a waste on the street. For a track car, maybe. the vacuum secondaries are so much nicer and smoother on the street. DPs are good for the track, when you hit the throttle hard and once. vac secs are a bit slower to react there. On the street vac secs RULE because they have such smooth drivability. You will thank me later, trust me.

Swapping carbs is easy. Make sure that you set your float levels, and a good fuel pressure regulator (5 psi) can't hurt. You don't need a huge fuel pump unless you are running a big block, but an electrical will take some load off the motor. Make sure you have no leaks! jetting can be tough to set up, but take your time.

BE SURE YOU CHECK HOOD CLEARANCE BEFORE YOU SLAM THE HOOD! I have seen many cars with telltale air cleaner screw dimples on the top center of their hoods because they didn't check.

What motor? Spend the money and get an Edelbrock Torker for street driving or a performer RPM for 1/4 mile racing. A Comp Cams 268 is a great cam for the street, with good idle and strong bottom end w/o giving up much on top.

Default Remembering back to my small block days, a 750 dbl. pumper was more then enough

for 400 hp.. Even that really killed the intake vacuum, but it was good on top end.

Default CFM calculations:

Max CFM = (Cubic Inch/2) X (Max RPM/1728)

So for a 350, it's approximately Max RPM/10
so 6500 RPM, 650 cfm
7000 RPM, 700 cfm
etc.

Smaller carbs have better throttle response, so don't go bigger than you have to.

Personally, I prefer a Quadrajet over a Holley.
