Default Wise ones of the tunning forum, information please.

2.8 Transmission for the 1.8 TQM B5 2000 model?

Lots of posts not a lot of in depth info.

Would like to perform the swap if feaseable as it is an apparrent direct fit?

Part Numbers and year models for the 2.8 Transmission - No info from what car its out of in my searches.

Is it a real bolt in and play arrangement?

Gear ratios? Any real advantage over 1.8 TQM Trans? Strenght and reliabillity? I do not Drag race the car and use only medium fast shifts at the track (Euro spares are expensive in Aus).

Anyone in Australia swaped the 2.8 and 1.8 transmission before?

Rough price as i don't think my budget will allow the S4 6 speed conversion?

Thanks in advance for any information.

Default Probably not worth doing IMO - the stock 5 speed is good and very strong.

Prolly only go to a S4 box if you are looking at 350+ hp - otherwise your $ could be better spent I beleive.

Default the 2.8 has taller gears...

i have a friend who has a 1.8t with a 2.8 tranny and his car is faster than another friend with a 1.8t tranny on his even though the car with the 1.8 tranny has quite a bit more hp and more tq at the wheels

Default The gears are not all that much taller.

In fact the gears only start getting taller from 3rd up, while first and second are exactly the same.

Default Are you 100% sure those are the correct gear ratio?

Because the info I was given for the 1.8t is different then what you have on that page.

Default Straight bolt-in, it's not any stronger though.....

It all depends on your car usage. If you spend a lot of time on the highway, then you'll love the taller 5th gear. Some rave that the 2.8 trans is the best mod ever, and some say they notice no difference.

IMHO, if your stock trans is good, then keep it that way until it blows, or if you find a 2.8 trans dirt cheap.

Personally, I love it.
