Default Brake fluid - Replace every 2 years regardless of milage

Is this really necessary? Brake fluid change is recommended by Audi every 2 years, but I doubt brake fluid deteriorates that rapidly. Thoughts? For those having AudiCare, was it something your dealer performed during service?

Audi Care covers it, and I just got it done in the S4. IMO, in drier climates, it's not a necessary thing. The big concern is moisture getting into the brake fluid and causing corrosion in the lines and master cylinder.

Brake fluid is hygroscopic, so will absorb water, even in a sealed system (but especially when in contact with air). I just had my brake fluid flushed the other day in my BMW, but realistically, it had been way over 2 years.

Probably good to do, but not strictly necessary at 2 years.

More & more manufactures recommending it. I wonder if they use a synthetic fluid?

Acura recommends changing every 3 years so its only right that Audi would recommend every 2...it helps keep up their illusion of exclusivity.

Necessary if you want to keep the brake system from rusting from the inside and to keep the brake fluid from boiling at an inopportune time. The latter is not a huge threat for everyday driving, but the former is important if you want to keep the car more than a few years.

MB, BMW, Audi all recommend 2-year change internal.

Toyota and Mazda said brake fluids don't need to be change at all.

My head is spinning.

Also makes Audi's recommendation that transmission fluid never be changed even more puzzling, doesn't seem there is a consistent corporate philosophy here...
