Default Q 5 2.0 or 3.0

Any feedback from those who have tried both engines? I'm not referring to the SQ5 or diesel (whole 'nuther story) just the basic 2.0 and 3.0's. Regrets, if any on your choice?

Thats gonna depend on you.... If you like speed an acceleration... 3.0T hands down. The 2.0 is nice and adequate but not the 'zoom zoom' (apology to Mazda) as the 3.0T.

I test drove both and here's my take"

2.0T Pros: cheaper, lighter (about 250 lbs), less body roll at corners, less front heavy, better gas mileage, pay less taxes, use less engine oil, enough power and torque for local and highway travel

3.0T pros: more power and torque

I went with the 3.0 for the reasons of performance and the ability to tune it beyond what you would be able to do with the 2.0. I've replaced the Supercharger pulley, new Cool Air Intake, tuned the ECU, put Sport springs on the car and soon will have Milltek full exhaust (non-res). It is really no longer a 3.0 ;^).

A well tuned 2.0 compares nicely to a stock 3.0 and it is a fairly cheap upgrade. We have both and have done direct comparisons off the line to about 120 and up to about 90 the tuned 2.0 is slightly ahead. That being said a tuned 3.0 will blow it out of the water as it has way more potential. A tuned TDI is even better. What is interesting is that the tune for the 3.0 is almost twice the price of the 2.0 even though it is just coding! I tuned the 2.0 with only several hundred miles not worried about warranty at all.

You should test drive them both back to back. For me personally, the 3.0T felt more responsive to the gas pedal inputs, possibly because there is no turbo lag.

Regrets, if any on your choice?
Not really. The MPG is horrible, but I knew it going into it and still went with the 3.0T because wife does not drive a lot, so it isn't a big deal. In 1.5 years of ownership, she's only at 9k miles right now. If she did drive a lot, we would have bought a TDI instead.

Go 3.0T. If you can get drive select on it as well, you will love it.

The 2.0T is kind of high strung. The 3.0T is kind of less stressful. It's got *****.

Drive both. I had the 2012 2.0T and traded it in for the 2013 3.0T.
It is not just performance. They feel like two different cars. Some people like one better then the other and it is not necessarily the 3.0T that they like better.

I would have gotten SQ5 if it was available back then

This is a really good comparison between the two. For the average driver the 2.0 is great! That's why Audi sells way more 2.0s than 3.0s. However, if you're used to something with more power then get the 3.0. I approached it from a length of ownership standpoint. I plan to keep my Q5 for 8-10 years. I didn't want to regret not buying the 3.0. If you're even considering the 3.0 then buy the 3.0.
