Default $700 just for pads?

Seems like a may need new brake pads. Bad noises and this weekend I heard a grind. Even more infuriating that the $700 just for pads is the fact that I may need them at 10,700 miles. I've never had a car that needed brakes at that low mileage.

Is that what the dealer quoted to replace them? If so....DAMN.

When the time comes, I'll need to get off my lazy behind and do it myself if thats what they are charging.

Yep. $360 for the front, $330 for the back. $690 total.

For that Price I would just go on tire rack and buy the Hawk Ceramics and save over half the price and get better braking than stock with less dust.

Did you not get Audi Care service? I was told it covered brakes unless that was lost in translation when I was talking to my German sales person.

It was a lot of money. I've checked through the system (ETKA is the electronic parts catalog for VAG group cars) and price in Europe is as follows:
8K0 698 151 C front brake pads Price: 88EUR
8K0 698 451 A rear brake pads Price: 56-64 EUR

Less dust, YES...Better braking, NO.

Really, stock pads on the Q5 are that good. I have to take my q5 around Nurburgring at least once I'll see how much brake fade I have in one lap on stock pads.

Let me ammend my assertion. The stock pads are about as good as you can get under normal driving conditions. The OEM pads have much better braking "bite" and need less pedal pressure for same amount of stopping power...even when warmed up. I'd guess that when pushed to the limit(which would happen on a track or maybe even pulling a heavy trailer through the mountains) the Hawks would be superior. I suppose "better braking" is conditional.

Take it to an independent shop. and maybe cut that down by half. Brake jobs are easy. I can do these brakes in an hour per axle with minimal tools.

In need to check into this but I thought brakes were covered under warranty for 12,000 miles. Read your owners manual. I am working so I can't check this for you. I know for a fact GM coverage is for 12,000.
